BETWEEN RIGHTS AND DEPRIVATION: SOCIAL AND HUMAN IMPACTS ON THE LIVES OF VULNERABLE INSS BENEFICIARIES

Abstract

This article analyzes the social, emotional, and human impacts resulting from fraud related to benefits from the Brazilian National Social Security Institute (INSS), emphasizing populations in situations of greater economic and social fragility, as well as age-based vulnerability, such as the elderly and people with disabilities. The reflection articulates a qualitative bibliographic theoretical analysis while considering empirical experience derived from professional practice in beneficiary services. It highlights how such frauds transcend the administrative dimension and directly affect dignity, autonomy, and material conditions of existence. Based on a dialogue with Pierre Bourdieu, Zygmunt Bauman, Amartya Sen, Robert Castel, Michel Foucault, and Boaventura de Sousa Santos, it is argued that these practices express structural forms of social injustice, revealing the fragility of the enforcement of rights within the contemporary Brazilian context.
