Abstract

Agriculture has been expanding more and more to meet food needs; however, there has been an increase in the use of pesticides to ensure a safe harvest. Mixing effects exist and are being increasingly explored to understand their relationship with chronic diseases. But the mere existence of a mixture effect does not mean that an adverse effect is occurring; the reverse is also true, as there is no conclusive evidence regarding this causality. This chapter addresses the effects of pesticide mixtures and their relationship to chronic diseases, in order to provide an overview of the concept underlying the term “mixture effect.”
