This study analyzes the relevance of financial education in basic education as a formative tool aimed at building autonomy, critical awareness, and civic participation within a society shaped by intensified consumerism, expanding credit systems, and profound socioeconomic inequalities. The research is grounded in a qualitative, bibliographic, and documentary approach, drawing upon theoretical contributions from education, sociology, economics, and media culture, as well as national and international regulatory documents related to financial literacy. The analyses revealed that the absence of financial education contributes to increased indebtedness, social vulnerability, emotional distress, and fragility in adult life planning. Furthermore, the findings demonstrate that critical and contextualized pedagogical practices foster greater discernment regarding market strategies, strengthening competencies linked to conscious consumption, economic planning, and financial citizenship. The study concludes that financial education must be consolidated as a permanent dimension of school education, closely connected to ethics, sustainability, and social justice.
