This study analyzes the production chains of sheep and poultry farming in the Itaim River Valley, investigating their socioeconomic and environmental impacts on the region. Through a qualitative approach, the perceptions of local producers were evaluated regarding the importance of these activities, their difficulties, the contribution of animal science, and the impacts generated. The results indicate that both production chains are important for income generation and the strengthening of the local economy but face challenges such as drought, lack of incentives, and the environmental impacts of sheep farming. Animal science plays a fundamental role in the sustainable development of these activities, through the application of technical knowledge and the promotion of community organization.
