THE RISK OF BOTULINUM TOXIN IN PATIENTS WITH LUPUS

Currently, there is an exponential interest among people in aesthetic procedures, with botulinum toxin type A (Botox) being used due to its less aggressive nature, minimally invasive approach, and ability to provide quick and significant results. Botox (BTX-A) is a protein produced by the Gram-positive bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which blocks the release of acetylcholine (Ach) at nerve endings, resulting in localized neuromuscular paralysis. This research aims to correlate the use of BTX-A in patients with lupus to avoid adverse reactions and various complications due to their comorbidity. The justification lies in the therapeutic modality, making it necessary to analyze immunological risks in patients with lupus. In this context, it is essential for an aesthetic pharmacist and other professionals to ensure a thorough patient evaluation to prevent exacerbating harm and avoid potentiating nosological processes, reinforcing the need for professionals to always keep their scientific knowledge up to date. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the subject, enhancing and benefiting both health professionals and ensuring the integrity and well-being of patients seeking such procedures.
