Abstract

Regenerative medicine, grounded in the use of stem cells, has emerged as one of the most promising fields in contemporary biomedicine, driven by recent scientific advances. This chapter aims to critically analyze the most recent discoveries related to stem cells and their therapeutic applications in tissue and organ regeneration. The methodology is based on an integrative review of international literature, selecting studies published in recognized scientific databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, with emphasis on research from the last decade. The results reveal significant progress in the use of embryonic, adult, and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), highlighting successful applications in neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal diseases, as well as in tissue engineering. In addition, innovative approaches combining biotechnology, gene editing, and biomaterials have enhanced therapeutic safety and efficacy. It is concluded that, despite remarkable advances, ethical, technical, and regulatory challenges still limit the widespread clinical application of these therapies. Nevertheless, recent discoveries reinforce the transformative potential of stem cells in regenerative medicine and indicate a promising future for clinical practice.
