BIOETHICS AND MYSTHANASIA IN THE FIELD OF BIOMEDICINE: PROFESSIONALS COMMITTED TO JUSTICE AND RESPECT FOR LIFE

Abstract

Since antiguity, ethical questions were addressed by philosophers who followed a code of conduct committed to human dignity. Nowadays, a new term emerged in response to the atrocities against life during the Second World War: bioethics, which analyzes moral and ethical issues related to human, animal, and environmental life. Later, the concept of misthanasia arose, which refers to the premature death of a person due to social inequalities, lack of assistance, or negligence in a slow and subtle way. This work aims to raise the discussion on bioethics and misthanasia in the field of biomedicine, considering the complexities and responsibilities involved in human care. The study conducted an integrative literature review on the subject, and the specific objectives aim to identify the attributes and present the concepts related to the terms bioethics and misthanasia, and thus, point out the synthesis of the results obtained from this review based on the assumptions of Marcio Fabri dos Anjos. The results indicated the need for integrating bioethical values into biomedical education and practice, thereby preventing misthanasia, but also promoting a more just and accessible healthcare system for everyone. However, the investigation highlighted the importance of knowledge about bioethics and misthanasia in the practice of biomedicine, emphasizing that the role of the professional is not limited to diagnosis and research, but extends to the defense of human rights, thereby promoting a more just and accessible healthcare system.
