Abstract

This article analyzes the school inclusion process of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in mainstream Basic Education classrooms, considering the persistent gap between the legal guarantee of access and the effective provision of appropriate conditions for school permanence, participation, and learning. The investigation was guided by the following research question: how can legal guarantees and theoretical constructs concerning the neurodevelopment of individuals with ASD be translated into teaching strategies that effectively succeed in mainstream Basic Education classrooms? The general objective was to analyze, based on scientific literature published between 2020 and 2025, how the theoretical and legal foundations related to the school inclusion of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder are connected to teaching strategies and Evidence-Based Practices implemented in mainstream Basic Education classrooms. Methodologically, this is a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive, bibliographic, and documentary study conducted through an Integrative Literature Review. The selection of studies followed, in an adapted manner, the PRISMA 2020 recommendations, resulting in a corpus composed of six scientific articles, complemented by the analysis of legal and regulatory documents. The results, interpreted in light of Cultural-Historical Theory and the neurodiversity perspective, revealed four main areas of pedagogical practice: individualized planning and co-teaching; Universal Design for Learning; environmental organization and the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication; and peer-mediated interventions. It is concluded that the school inclusion of students with ASD cannot be limited to enrollment, as it requires collaborative planning, intentional pedagogical mediation, continuing teacher education, and evidence-based strategies capable of ensuring access to the curriculum, communication, social interaction, and learning.
