CONTAMINAÇÃO EM AMBIENTES AQUÁTICOS E TECNOLOGIAS DE TRATAMENTO

Antidepressivos são fármacos amplamente prescritos destinados ao tratamento de transtornos mentais, atuando na regulação do humor e da atividade neuroquímica. Dentre os antidepressivos mais consumidos se destaca o cloridrato de venlafaxina, pertencente à classe dos inibidores de recaptação de serotonina e noradrenalina (IRSN). Após a administração, esse composto e seus metabólitos podem ser eliminados por diferentes vias antrópicas em sua forma não metabolizada ou biologicamente ativa, alcançando águas residuais. A eficiência limitada dos métodos convencionais atuais de tratamento de água e efluentes contribui para a persistência deste fármaco no ambiente, o que o classifica como contaminante emergente, com potencial toxicidade para a biota aquática e riscos para à saúde humana. Diante desse cenário, o capítulo discute e revisa as principais técnicas de tratamento aplicáveis à remoção e degradação da venlafaxina em matrizes aquosas, com destaque para processos de adsorção, filtração por membranas, processos de oxidação avançada e em destaque o uso de radiação ultravioleta, isolada ou associada a agentes oxidantes, evidenciando a necessidade de avanços tecnológicos para uma remoção mais eficiente de contaminantes emergentes em corpos hídricos.
