Abstract

Environmental public policies play a strategic role in promoting sustainable development and protecting human health, increasingly influenced by advances in biomedicine and biotechnology. This chapter aims to analyze the interface between environmental public policies and the contributions of biomedicine and biotechnology to environmental risk prevention, health impact monitoring, and the formulation of sustainable strategies. The methodology consists of a narrative literature review based on scientific articles, official documents, and reports from national and international organizations addressing environment, health, and technological innovation. The results indicate that biomedicine significantly contributes to the identification of environmental exposure biomarkers, epidemiological surveillance, and health risk assessment, while biotechnology stands out in the development of bioproducts, bioremediation processes, and sustainable solutions for pollution control. It is concluded that the integration of environmental public policies with biomedicine and biotechnology strengthens evidence-based decision-making, enhances responses to contemporary environmental challenges, and promotes the protection of human health and ecosystems, being essential for the advancement of more effective and sustainable public policies.
