Abstract

The present systematic literature review aims to investigate the relationship between anxiety and academic performance, focusing on identifying patterns, mediating factors and coping strategies reported in scientific production over the last decade (2014–2024). Anxiety, as a multifactorial psychosocial phenomenon, manifests itself as one of the main emotional conditions capable of compromising academic performance, affecting students' attention, memory and motivation. The methodology used comprised the analysis of articles indexed in scientific databases such as Scielo, PubMed and Google Scholar, selected based on inclusion criteria that involve empirical studies and theoretical reviews with samples composed of elementary, secondary and higher education students. The analysis of the results allowed us to identify a significant correlation between high levels of anxiety and a drop in academic performance, especially in evaluative and highly competitive contexts. Furthermore, it was found that variables such as social support, self-esteem and emotional regulation strategies act as protective factors in the relationship between anxiety and learning. It is concluded that pedagogical interventions integrated into school mental health are essential for improving academic performance and promoting an emotionally healthy educational environment.
