DIAGNOSIS OF URBAN TREE PLANTING IN TERESINA, PIAUÍ: INFRASTRUCTURE, PLANNING, AND SUSTAINABILITY

Abstract

This research aimed to carry out a detailed diagnosis of urban afforestation in Teresina-PI, identifying the main challenges faced and proposing sustainable strategies that contribute to urban planning and the improvement of the city's environmental quality. For this, a survey of tree data from public roads in Teresina was carried out, in which the two types of afforestation found (sidewalks and medians) were approached in a different way, as well as a survey of the infrastructure and afforestation of public squares distributed in each of the four regions of the city. For the materials and methods, aerial images of city maps, such as Google Earth and Google Maps, were used, as well as in loco collection. For the survey of the square infrastructure, a stratified sample of 2 squares distributed in each of the four regions of the city was taken, and for the survey of public roads, 4 sample points were drawn, one road in each of the four regions of the city, randomly distributed, following the directions of the streets and observing the two sides of the sidewalks, recording data from each individual. Finally, in results and discussion, analyzing all the data of the sampled public roads and squares, it was observed the need for tree planning aiming at factors that contribute to the good relationship between the trees and the city, their continuous maintenance, as well as the good structuring of squares and roads.
