EMOTIONAL EDUCATION IN SCHOOL: ARE WE PREPARING CHILDREN FOR LIFE?

Contemporary education faces the challenge of going beyond the transmission of cognitive content, incorporating the development of socio-emotional competencies as a fundamental part of the individual's integral formation. This article aims to discuss the importance of emotional education in the school context, highlighting essential skills such as recognizing emotions, controlling impulses, dealing with frustrations, developing empathy, and resolving conflicts. Based on a qualitative approach, with a bibliographic and reflective nature, grounded in theoretical frameworks from education and psychology, this study seeks to highlight the role of the school and the teacher in promoting these competencies, as well as the challenges faced in pedagogical practice. It is concluded that emotional education is essential for the formation of more aware, balanced individuals who are better prepared for life in society.
