Abstract

This article addresses the issue of early physiotherapy treatment in stroke. The objective is to conduct a literature review on early physiotherapy after stroke. To carry out this work, a bibliographic survey was conducted using a literature search in the electronic databases of the Virtual Health Library (VHL), selecting the SCIELO, LILACS, and MEDLINE databases. The studies discussed in this review support the notion that early physiotherapy after stroke should significantly affect the course of intervention, help target individuals who would benefit most from specific types and intensities of therapy, and possibly provide better motor and functional outcomes. This review will likely help future research and interventions to emphasize the timing of rehabilitation initiation and some aspects of the intervention, such as the type of treatment. Treatment varies widely, as patients are in a state of diminished capacity to varying degrees and cannot be asked to perform excessive work, but should make the most of their time and help the patient as fully as possible. For this, more research is needed on the most effective type of treatment.
