THE ADVANCEMENT OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AND THE BRAZILIAN UNIFIED HEALTH SYSTEM (SUS): THE ROLE OF TELEHEALTH IN PSYCHOSOCIAL CARE

The advancement of digital technologies has expanded the possibilities for organizing and delivering health services within the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), particularly in the field of mental health. This study aims to analyze the role of telehealth in strengthening psychosocial care and expanding access to mental health services within SUS. A narrative literature review was conducted based on national and international scientific publications available in databases such as SciELO, PubMed, and Google Scholar, as well as institutional documents from the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The results indicate that the incorporation of digital tools, including teleconsultations, telemonitoring, and clinical decision-support platforms, contributes to expanding access to care, especially in regions with limited availability of specialized professionals. In addition, telehealth promotes integration among different levels of care, supports continuing professional education, and enhances the continuity of care for individuals experiencing psychological distress. However, challenges related to technological infrastructure, digital inclusion, and professional training still limit its full implementation. It is concluded that telehealth represents a promising strategy to improve psychosocial care within SUS, promoting greater equity, comprehensiveness, and efficiency in mental health services.
