This study examined the influence of physical activity on adolescents’ mental health, analyzing a sample of 250 students (12-17 years) from public and private schools. Results revealed that adolescents engaging in ≥300 minutes/week of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity exhibited 24% lower prevalence of depressive symptoms and 19% lower anxiety, alongside higher self-esteem and subjective well-being. Team sports proved particularly effective, especially among girls and public school students. The findings underscore the need for intersectoral public policies integrating physical education, health, and social assistance to prevent mental disorders in this population. Evidence-based school programs are recommended, while future research should prioritize longitudinal designs to elucidate underlying neuropsychological mechanisms.
