SUPPLY CHAIN OPTIMIZATION IN HOSPITAL PHARMACIES: EFFICIENCY IN MANAGEMENT

Abstract

Supply chain management in hospital pharmacies represents a fundamental challenge to ensure the continuous availability of medications and supplies, reduce waste, and optimize resources. This study aims to analyze strategies and tools focused on optimizing this chain, with an emphasis on operational efficiency, cost reduction, and patient safety. The qualitative research, based on a literature review, identified the main challenges of hospital logistics management, such as the lack of integration between sectors, failures in demand forecasting, and a high rate of losses due to medication expiration. Furthermore, it highlighted the impact of emerging technologies, such as automation, artificial intelligence, and predictive analytics, which contribute to greater accuracy in inventory control and purchasing planning. Management practices such as monitoring performance indicators, applying Just-in-Time principles, and traceability, which favor waste reduction and process improvement, were also described. It concludes that the incorporation of technological innovations combined with good management practices is essential to strengthen the efficiency of the hospital supply chain and promote patient safety.
