Pedagogical documentation is an important tool for monitoring and understanding children's learning and development processes in early childhood education. Through observation, records, and reflection on everyday experiences, teachers can identify interests, recognize forms of participation, and reorganize planning according to the group's needs. This article aims to reflect on the importance of pedagogical documentation in early childhood education, highlighting the relationship between observation, recording, assessment, and planning. It is a qualitative study based on bibliographic and documentary research, drawing on works about education and teaching practice, as well as Brazilian educational regulations. The discussion shows that pedagogical records become meaningful when they are used to interpret children's experiences and guide decisions, rather than merely serving as bureaucratic evidence of completed work. It also emphasizes the need to respect each child's individuality, avoid labeling, and protect privacy when producing and sharing records. The article concludes that pedagogical documentation, when developed ethically, systematically, and reflectively, helps make learning pathways visible, strengthens teachers' intentionality, and improves the organization of educational practices.
