LITERATURE AND PHILOSOPHY IN PLATO AND ARISTOTLE: A BRIEF COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

This article aims to analyze the ideas of Literature and art from the perspectives of Plato and Aristotle, highlighting their conceptions of mimesis and the relationship between Philosophy and Literature. In Plato's discourse, art is seen as an imitation of the sensible world, having the attribute of distancing human beings from truth, being inferior to Philosophy, which is solely responsible for true knowledge. For him, Literature originates from inspiration and not scientific knowledge. In contrast, Aristotle recognizes art as scientific knowledge, understanding mimesis as a natural act of human beings, constituting a legitimate form of representation of reality. After bibliographic analysis, it is concluded that Plato promotes a distancing between Literature and Philosophy, while Aristotle, in the opposite sense, promotes their approximation.
