IMPACTS OF DIAGNOSIS AND EARLY INTERVENTION OF NEONATAL HEARING SCREENING ON AUDITORY DEVELOPMENT AND ORAL LANGUAGE IN CHILDREN WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT

This study aims to address the impacts of early diagnosis and intervention through neonatal hearing screening (NHS) on the auditory and oral language development of children with hearing impairment. This is a literature review conducted using the Google Scholar and SciELO databases. Articles published in Portuguese between 2020 and 2025 were included. The results show that language and hearing development are interconnected, with NHS marking the beginning of an integrative health process, enabling early diagnosis and intervention, preventing damage to the cerebral cortex, and maximizing the learning window due to childhood neuroplasticity. It is clear that screening is important for monitoring the child's development and enabling timely intervention, thus promoting overall auditory and language development and enabling a better quality of life and social inclusion for the patient.
