THE IMPORTANCE OF ADMINISTRATION IN ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

Abstract

This work deals with the relevance of administration in environmental engineering, highlighting its importance for sustainability and the efficient management of environmental impacts in organizations. The main objective is to show how the integration of technical knowledge and administrative skills enhances the performance of environmental engineers in drawing up public policies, audits, certifications and the use of tools such as the Environmental Management System (EMS). The methodology used was bibliographical research, based on authors such as Tavares, Gusmão, Garcia, Flickinger, Gonçalves, Machado, Carvalho and Tachizawa. Based on a critical and historical analysis, it was observed that the negative impacts of industrialization on the environment have driven the need for management actions aimed at preserving and adapting production processes. The creation of standards such as ISO 14001 and the application of environmental control systems demonstrate the evolution of ecological awareness in companies. The EMS, in particular, is proving to be an effective tool for monitoring waste, environmental planning and promoting eco-efficiency. The results show that companies that adopt sustainable practices not only meet legal requirements, but also gain a competitive advantage and improve their image in society. The conclusion is that administration is an indispensable ally for environmental engineering, and is essential in building a development model that combines economic progress with ecological responsibility, contributing to a more balanced, fair and environmentally conscious future.
