The aim of this study is to investigate the place occupied by foreign languages in the proficiency exams of graduate programs in the states of Tocantins, Pará, and Amapá, evaluated by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) in the field of Linguistics and Literature. The methodology consisted of collecting documents that provide data on foreign-language proficiency exams. The Sucupira Platform was used in this search to identify the universities that offer graduate programs in the aforementioned area. The theoretical framework that supports this research is linked to studies on Language Policy, particularly regarding the status of languages. Seven graduate programs were examined between 2021 and 2022, covering all programs active during this period. The results reveal a prominent position for the English language compared to other languages, as all programs accept English and, in some cases, it is the only option.
