MUSIC, FASCISM, AND HATE: A PSYCHOANALYTIC ANALYSIS OF NATIONAL SOCIALIST BLACK METAL (NSBM)

Abstract

This study examines National Socialist Black Metal (NSBM) from a psychoanalytic perspective, investigating how the music, aesthetics, and ideology of this movement contribute to the dissemination of hate speech, intolerance, and fascism among young people. It is observed that the Black Metal genre, historically marked by violence, transgression, and rebellion, has developed a distinctive aesthetic, including corpse paint and macabre iconography, which reinforces its identity as a rupture from social and religious norms. National Socialist Black Metal (NSBM) emerges as a derivative of this movement, promoting neo-Nazi ideals through lyrics, symbols, and performances, legitimizing Aryan supremacy and the exclusion of groups considered “sub-human.” The analysis highlights the power of the masses over the individual, showing how unconscious processes in mass adherence reinforce extremist behaviors. The relevance of this topic is justified socially, politically, and scientifically, as it allows for a better understanding of the mechanisms of attraction and dissemination of extremist ideologies and points to the need for strategies to confront them through education and critical reflection.
