Quilombos, communities formed by enslaved Africans and their descendants, represent a landmark of resistance and autonomy in Brazilian history. This article analyzes their social organization, survival strategies, cultural and armed resistance, as well as their legacy in the formation of national identity. The contributions of authors such as João José Reis, Flávia Lacerda, and Roger Bastide are highlighted, as well as the contemporary challenges faced by quilombo communities.
