ASSESSMENT OF TEACHERS' KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE SUPRACRESTAL SPACE

The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of dental professors about the supracrestal space, an anatomical structure essential for the functional and aesthetic success of dental rehabilitations. This is a quantitative, cross-sectional, and descriptive study conducted with dental surgeon professors from a higher education institution in northern Minas Gerais. Participants answered a structured questionnaire about concepts, measurements, and clinical implications of the supracrestal space. Data were statistically analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The results indicated that, although most professors recognize the importance of the supracrestal space, conceptual gaps were observed, especially regarding its average size and the procedures that compromise it. Professional experience and teaching time proved to be determining factors for greater accuracy in the responses. It is concluded that, despite the advanced level of training of the participants, there is still a need for further theoretical study and continuous updating on the subject, considering its relevance to the preservation of periodontal tissues and the success of oral rehabilitation. The study reinforces the importance of ongoing training for dental teachers and professionals regarding the biological principles that guide clinical practice.
