This chapter examines the implications of changes in the CIDE-Fuel tax rate on federal investments in transportation infrastructure in Brazil. It begins with the contextualization of the Brazilian tax system, highlighting the relevance of CIDE in financing through the state. The analysis delves into CIDE's influence on budgetary policies, emphasizing the crucial role of the public budget in financial management. It explores public revenue, its linkage to taxes, and the importance of CIDE as a funding source for projects with specific objectives. The study is based on documentary analysis of legal texts, presidential decrees, and decisions of the Federal Supreme Court related to CIDE-Fuel. Economic data, especially revenue collection and investments, were obtained from official sources, such as the National Confederation of Transport (CNT). The Federal Supreme Court's decision on the allocation of resources reinforces the importance of constitutional compliance. Finally, it highlights the socioeconomic implications of changes to CIDE, particularly regarding accessibility to transportation services and dependent sectors. It concludes by emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to changes in tax rates to ensure sustainable development and social well-being.
