THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGINEERING IN MODERN TIMES

Abstract

The importance of engineering in modern times is the central theme of this article, which seeks to understand the fundamental role of engineering in human, social and technological development. The main objective is to analyze how the different areas of engineering, in an integrated and multidisciplinary way, contribute to solving complex problems and improving the quality of life in contemporary society. The methodology used was bibliographical research, based on authors such as Siqueira De Luca et al. (2018), Bazzo and Pereira (2013), Dagnino et al. (2013), among others, allowing a theoretical and critical reflection on the strategic role of the engineer today. The article is structured in two main chapters, in addition to the introduction and conclusion. The first chapter presents a historical and conceptual contextualization of engineering, highlighting its various specializations and its multidisciplinary nature. The second chapter looks at the practical application of engineering in modern society, exemplifying how technologies such as drones, laparoscopic surgery and automated systems have a positive impact on everyday life, especially in the areas of health, transportation, food and energy. The results indicate that contemporary engineering is deeply committed to innovation and the search for sustainable and humanized solutions, and is essential for facing current challenges such as climate change, digitalization and urbanization. The conclusion is that engineering should be understood not just as a technical field, but as a transformative and socially engaged force, capable of shaping the present and the future in a fairer, more efficient and sustainable way.
