Abstract

The article was developed based on a bibliographic review conducted in the SciELO, CAPES Periodicals, and Google Scholar databases, which provided the foundation for its development. The objective was to analyze the democratic processes that guide school management, observing their functionality, objectivity, necessity, and implications, as well as investigating whether there is, in fact, effective participation of all those involved in decision-making processes. The study sought to understand the foundations of democratic management by articulating theoretical, legal, and practical aspects that support this concept within the Brazilian educational context. Reflecting on this management model is essential, as it represents an advance over traditional methods by proposing a participatory, autonomous, and dialogical form of school administration. The results indicate that, although the principle of democratic management is supported by educational legislation and policies, its practical implementation still faces challenges, especially regarding institutional autonomy and the participation of the school community. It is concluded that democratic management is essential for valuing the culture, history, and social context of educational institutions, contributing to the development of critical, participatory citizens who are aware of their role in building a truly democratic society.
