Abstract

Immunization during pregnancy is an essential maternal and child protection strategy, as it prevents health problems for pregnant women and ensures passive immunity for newborns in the first months of life. This study aimed to assess, based on the scientific literature, the relevance of immunization during this period and the level of information available to pregnant women and healthcare professionals, to understand how these factors affect adherence to recommended vaccines. This is a literature review, consisting of thirteen articles published between 2020 and 2024, obtained from the BVS (Virtual Health Library), SciELO, and PubMed databases. The results showed that, despite the proven efficacy and safety of recommended vaccines during pregnancy, vaccination coverage remains low due to misinformation, uncertainty, and communication issues between healthcare professionals and pregnant women. It was also found that gaps in healthcare professionals' knowledge negatively impact prenatal care. The conclusion is that understanding the level of information and perception of those involved is essential to strengthening public policies, improving educational strategies, and increasing adherence to vaccination campaigns, contributing to the effective promotion of maternal and child health.
