Nephrolithiasis is a common health problem that has a significant impact on individuals’ quality of life due to intense pain, recurrence of stones, and potential complications affecting the urinary system. Despite advances in therapeutic methods, such as pharmacological interventions and minimally invasive procedures, there are still limitations related to adverse effects, costs, and disease recurrence. This highlights the need for more accessible and effective complementary strategies. In this context, the use of medicinal plants has gained prominence, especially Phyllanthus niruri, which has been traditionally used in the treatment of kidney stones. Its popular use, combined with a growing number of scientific investigations, raises interest regarding its actual effectiveness and the mechanisms involved in the prevention and elimination of stones. The relevance of this study lies in the need to gather and analyze up-to-date scientific evidence on the pharmacological properties of Phyllanthus niruri, contributing to a deeper understanding of its action in the body. Furthermore, identifying its bioactive compounds may provide a foundation for developing new therapeutic approaches based on natural products. Therefore, this research is justified as it contributes both to the academic field and to healthcare practice by expanding knowledge about herbal alternatives in the management of nephrolithiasis, promoting a more integrative and evidence-based perspective in patient care.
