HOW THE “MEDIA DISEASE” WAS NOT THE FOCUS OF THE MEDIA IN ARACAJU

Abstract

This production is the result of the first steps in the research for a master's dissertation in Education which, through the analysis of periodicals from three news outlets in the city of Aracaju, capital of Sergipe, we sought to understand how these narratives educated the population about AIDS from 1983 onwards. Since the “media disease”, as it came to be called by some scholars, was a complex illness, it was able to receive this nomenclature because it was so far ahead of medicine, that both contagion and its popularity grew much more than scientific discoveries about its origin. Thus, our problem is established when, during the first five years of research, we acquired little information on such an urgent topic and how we carried out the investigation in this situation. And just as the dissertation uses the qualitative method, we will also follow this path, specifically through documentary analysis.
