URGENCY AND EMERGENCY IN THE CONTEMPORARY SCENARIO: CHALLENGES, STRATEGIES AND PRACTICES FOR THE QUALIFICATION OF CARE AND THE SAFETY OF THE PERSON ASSISTED

Abstract

Urgent and emergency care in the contemporary context constitutes a strategic area of healthcare, characterized by the need for rapid, safe interventions based on practices capable of reducing risks and promoting better clinical outcomes. This study consists of a literature review and aims to analyze the main challenges faced by urgent and emergency care services, as well as to identify strategies and practices aimed at improving the quality of care and the safety of assisted individuals. The research was conducted through the identification and analysis of scientific publications related to service organization, risk classification, patient safety, multidisciplinary practice, communication, and clinical protocols. The results indicate that high demand, overcrowding, limited human and structural resources, communication failures, and the clinical complexity of patients represent important obstacles to quality care. Conversely, the use of standardized protocols, appropriate risk classification, continuing education, strengthened multidisciplinary teamwork, and the adoption of safety measures contribute to reducing adverse events and improving decision-making. It is concluded that improving urgent and emergency care depends on the integration of management, professional training, organization of work processes, and the consolidation of an institutional culture focused on safety and humanized care.
