Abstract

Fibromyalgia is a chronic, multifactorial syndrome characterized by persistent pain, fatigue, emotional disturbances, and functional limitations that significantly compromise the quality of life of affected individuals. Managing this condition requires an integrated approach that considers the interaction among physical, psychological, and social factors. This study aimed to analyze scientific evidence on the integration of mental health services and physical rehabilitation in the management of fibromyalgia, considering the relationships among chronic pain, psychological distress, functioning, and comprehensive care. This integrative literature review was conducted in PubMed, Latindex, and Open Journal Systems repositories and included studies published in Portuguese and English between 2021 and 2026. The findings showed that interdisciplinary interventions involving physical rehabilitation, psychological support, mind–body therapies, and self-care strategies contribute to pain reduction, improved functioning, enhanced emotional resilience, and better quality of life. It is concluded that integrating mental health and physical rehabilitation is essential to the provision of comprehensive, humanized care based on the biopsychosocial model.
