THE STATE OF PARÁ BEFORE AND AFTER COP30: THE DIFFICULTIES ENCOUNTERED IN THE AMAZON AND THE LEGACY THAT WILL REMAIN

Abstract

The focus of this article is to reflect on the transformations in the state of Pará before and after COP30, highlighting the main difficulties faced in the Amazon and the possible legacies left by this historic event. As an Amazonian professor, historian and researcher, I understand that hosting COP30 in Belém represents a unique opportunity for Pará to stand out on the international stage. The central aim of this research is to analyze the environmental, social and economic challenges facing the region and to point out how the conference can boost sustainable policies and strengthen the participation of forest peoples. We conclude that COP30 has great importance for Brazil, by reaffirming its climate commitment; for Pará, as an engine for sustainable development; and for the world, by placing the Amazon at the center of global decisions on climate. The legacy could be long-lasting, as long as it is accompanied by concrete, inclusive and environmentally responsible actions.
