Abstract

This research analyzes the campaign "Essa Coca é Fanta. E daí?" ("This Coke is Fanta. So what?"), developed by Coca-Cola Brazil to celebrate International LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Day, through the lens of Consumer Culture Theory (CCT) and Transformative Consumer Research (TCR). The objective was to understand how a marketing communication initiative can contribute to constructing meanings related to sexual diversity, social recognition, and cultural transformation. Methodologically, this is a qualitative study grounded in the interpretivist paradigm, employing netnography as well as document and media analysis. The corpus consisted of 28 items collected between August 2025 and February 2026, including the official campaign material, news reports, specialized publications, and digital content regarding the campaign's reception. Data were analyzed using Content Analysis, as proposed by Bardin (2016), and Discourse Analysis, based on Orlandi (2009). The results revealed four analytical categories: (i) resignification of an expression historically associated with homophobia; (ii) LGBTQIAPN+ representation and the construction of social recognition; (iii) discursive disputes and the campaign's repercussions in digital environments; and (iv) brand communication, well-being, and social transformation. The findings demonstrate that the campaign transcended the boundaries of traditional advertising by transforming an expression historically used in a pejorative manner into a narrative of pride, diversity, and inclusion. Furthermore, they highlight the role of brands as cultural agents capable of participating in the circulation and resignification of cultural meanings, increasing the visibility of historically marginalized groups, and fostering public debates on sexual diversity. As a theoretical contribution, the study strengthens the dialogue between Consumer Culture Theory and Transformative Consumer Research, broadening the understanding of the potential of market practices to promote social recognition, inclusion, and cultural transformation.
