THE CASE OF L TERENA: PHONETIC INVENTORY & HISTORICAL INVENTORY

Abstract

During the study of Phonetics and Phonology for a PhD in Linguistics at Unicamp - State University of Campinas - the author repeatedly heard, at various points in the development of the proposed theory, the words of Terena teachers and/or friends: "The Terena language doesn't have an L!" – which did not coincide with the audible experiences lived. Therefore, this comment inspired the author, in the face of the challenge proposed for the final course work, to recover these pronouncements and investigate them scientifically, with appropriate theory and theoretical-practical tools. In this sense, this became the scope of this work, here transformed into text.
