Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the most relevant factors that contribute to Zoom fatigue, as well as its implications for cognitive processing, interpersonal communication, and auditory health. Among the aspects highlighted are the cognitive overload generated by the need to maintain constant attention to multiple visual and auditory cues, the limitation of complete body language, the effort to sustain prolonged eye contact, and excessive self-consciousness during calls. It was observed during the study that Zoom fatigue can cause symptoms such as mental exhaustion, headaches, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and even problems in auditory processing, since the brain needs to compensate for deficiencies in audio quality and speech synchronization. These impacts are especially noticeable in educational and professional contexts, where prolonged use of these tools is common. As coping strategies, the study suggests reducing screen time, taking regular breaks, using appropriate technologies (such as good quality headphones), and restructuring pedagogical and work practices to create more balanced and healthy hybrid environments.
