Abstract

The flipped classroom is a learning method in which content is presented to the student outside the school environment. This first contact can happen through the internet, including video lessons and games made available by teachers, books, and textbooks.

This method assigns to technology the function of enabling the first contact with concepts and information. However, this does not mean that the teacher ceases to have an essential role. In the classroom, time is used to answer questions about the content and promote debates. In addition, it is possible to carry out activities that develop the students' understanding of the topic covered.

The flipped classroom breaks the idea that the teacher is the holder and center of knowledge. Therefore, students cease to be passive agents in the learning process. The new method passes this responsibility of seeking content to the student, since in the current context, good quality information is available in various places and media.

And the teacher's role in the flipped classroom is to sharpen research and enable discussions, mediating the construction of knowledge. Ultimately, although information comes from many sources, he assigns to the educator the responsibility of provoking thought. While technology offers the most basic levels of knowledge, it is the human element that provides opportunities for analysis, comparison, confrontation of ideas, and critique.
