Neuromodulation and neurodevelopmental disordersAbstract
Neuromodulation has emerged as a promising intervention in the treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders. Techniques such as neurofeedback, transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and photobiomodulation have been used to promote functional brain regulation and attenuate behavioral and cognitive symptoms. This article discusses the neurobiological foundations of these techniques, reviews recent scientific evidence and presents clinical considerations based on practical experience with patients.
Neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and language disorders involve functional and structural alterations in the central nervous system, significantly impacting behavior, cognition and learning in the face of the limitations of some traditional approaches. Neuromodulation has emerged as a complementary and non-invasive therapeutic alternative.
