Abstract

Introduction: Robotic surgery has been increasingly established as a minimally invasive approach across different specialties; however, national data on adverse events remain limited. This study describes the profile of complications associated with procedures performed using the Da Vinci platform in a hospital in western Paraná. Methods: This was an observational, retrospective, and descriptive study based on the analysis of medical records of patients who underwent robotic surgeries between April and December 2024. Sociodemographic variables, procedural characteristics, and adverse events classified according to Clavien-Dindo and ClassIntra were collected. Results: Of the 143 records provided, 142 were analyzed. Urology accounted for 66.2% of the procedures and gastrointestinal surgery for 32.4%. A total of 25 adverse events (17.6%) were recorded, including 23 postoperative and 4 intraoperative events. Most were classified as mild to moderate complications. The majority of postoperative events occurred within the first three days. Patients with adverse events had longer hospital stays, with 76% being older than 65 years. Gastrointestinal surgeries accounted for the highest relative proportion of complications (28.2%). No mechanical failures of the robotic system were recorded. Conclusion: The observed adverse events showed a distribution consistent with international data, particularly in urological procedures. The higher rate of complications in gastrointestinal surgeries likely reflects the greater complexity and extent of these procedures. These findings provide a relevant institutional overview and may contribute to the improvement of clinical practices and safety in robotic surgery
