IMPACT OF AESTHETIC PROCEDURES ON FEMALE SELF-IMAGE IN THE POST-MATERNITY PERIOD

Abstract

Motherhood is recognized as one of the most significant phases of physical, emotional, and social transformations in a woman’s life, as the changes resulting from pregnancy and childbirth may manifest in the form of flaccidity, stretch marks, weight gain followed by weight loss, and alterations in body shape. These changes directly impact the perception of image and self-image, which can generate feelings of insecurity and dissatisfaction. In this scenario, even with the search for a new routine and family or community support, it is often not enough for women to feel well or achieve a body close to their goals. Aesthetic procedures thus emerge as alternatives to restore self-esteem and rebuild a relationship of confidence with one’s own body. This article aims to investigate the impact of aesthetic procedures on female self-image in the post-maternity period, considering positive aspects, sociocultural contexts, and possible negative outcomes that may arise in this dynamic. To understand how these interventions may contribute to personal appreciation, the strengthening of self-esteem, and the recovery of femininity during the experience of motherhood, the proposed methodology consists of an integrative literature review based on scientific articles published in databases such as SciELO, PubMed, and Google Scholar between 2019 and 2025. Studies addressing the relationship between aesthetics, self-image, and motherhood will be analyzed, allowing the identification of patterns, benefits, and risks associated with aesthetic procedures in the postpartum period. It is expected that the results will highlight theoretical benefits such as increased confidence, personal satisfaction, and social well-being, while also pointing out risks related to unrealistic expectations regarding outcomes.
