Clinical protocols are fundamental instruments to standardize practices, ensure patient safety, and improve the quality of medical care. This chapter aims to analyze the application of clinical protocols in physicians’ daily practice, highlighting their relevance to evidence-based decision-making. The methodology consisted of a narrative literature review based on studies by classical and contemporary authors such as Guyatt et al., Sackett et al., Grol and Grimshaw, as well as documents from the World Health Organization and the Brazilian Ministry of Health published between 2010 and 2024. Scientific articles, clinical guidelines, and technical manuals addressing the implementation and impact of protocols in healthcare practice were analyzed. The results indicate that the systematic adoption of clinical protocols reduces unwarranted variations in medical practice, improves clinical outcomes, enhances patient safety, and optimizes the use of healthcare resources. Furthermore, well-structured protocols contribute to greater adherence to best practices and more accurate clinical decision-making. It is concluded that clinical protocols are essential tools in physicians’ daily routines, promoting more efficient, ethical, and evidence-based care.
