THE SOCIAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE LANDFILL (SANITARY LANDFILL) IN BAIXO ACARÁ – PA

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the social, environmental, and economic impacts caused by the implementation of a landfill in Baixo Acará, in the state of Pará. The discussion is based on the reality experienced by traditional communities, such as rural and quilombola communities, whose living conditions and sustainability have been threatened by projects that do not consider popular participation or respect for the environment. The research is based on a qualitative approach, with a literature review and critical analysis of public documents. The study identifies damage to public health, the environment, and the local economy, especially in family farming. It concludes that the absence of social dialogue and poor environmental management intensify the vulnerabilities of local populations, requiring more participatory, sustainable, and socially just public policies.
