Abstract

Fairy tales recurrently portray child characters who experience abandonment, rejection, loss, and suffering. From the perspective of Analytical Psychology, these narratives symbolically express the archetype of the wounded child, representing universal conflicts related to vulnerability, personality development, and the overcoming of psychological suffering. This article aims to analyze the manifestation of this archetype in classic fairy tales, discussing how experiences of loss and abandonment contribute to processes of psychological transformation and maturation. The study is based on the contributions of Jung, Bettelheim, Hillman, Von Franz, Estés, Alice Miller, and Marion Woodman. It concludes that fairy-tale narratives transform the pain of childhood into a symbolic journey of growth and individuation, offering psychological models of resilience, integration, and human development.
