FAIRY TALES AS EXPRESSIONS OF THE COLLECTIVE UNCONSCIOUS: A JUNGIAN INTERPRETATION

Fairy tales are symbolic narratives that transcend generations and cultures, preserving recurring images and structures that reflect universal aspects of human experience. From the perspective of Carl Gustav Jung’s Analytical Psychology, these narratives can be understood as manifestations of the collective unconscious, expressing archetypes that organize psychic life and foster processes of psychological development. In this context, characters such as heroes, kings, queens, witches, dragons, and wise elders represent psychic forces involved in the formation of personality. This article aims to analyze fairy tales as expressions of the collective unconscious through a Jungian interpretation, discussing the concepts of archetype, individuation, and symbolism. The study is bibliographical in nature and is primarily based on the contributions of Jung, Bettelheim, and Marie-Louise von Franz. It is concluded that fairy tales perform an important psychological function by symbolically representing conflicts, challenges, and possibilities for transformation that accompany human development.
