Abstract

Assessing the geotouristic potential of a territory depends on integrating the intrinsic value of geosites with available access conditions and infrastructure. This article analyzes the geotouristic potential of the 151 geosites registered on the GEOSSIT platform in the state of Bahia, examining the distribution of tourism scores, scientific scores, and access profiles across the 13 tourism regions recognized by the 2025 Brazilian Tourism Map. The methodology involved descriptive statistical analysis and data categorization by tourism region, municipal category, and access profile. The results reveal that geosites located in tourism municipalities have higher average tourism scores (241.2) compared to those in municipalities with complementary tourism offerings (215.8), a difference of 25.4 points. Analysis of access profiles indicates that 45.0% of the geosites have moderate access, 29.8% have easy access, and 25.2% have difficult access. The Chapada Diamantina region concentrates the highest number of high-potential geosites, whereas regions such as Águas do Oeste and Caminhos do Sagrado show low representation. The study highlights the need for investment in access infrastructure and signage to enhance Bahia's geotouristic potential, as well as the importance of integrated methodologies that link geoscientific data with tourism planning tools.
