The advancement of digital social networks has intensified the circulation of idealized images and consolidated new beauty standards, especially on Instagram, a platform marked by the centrality of aesthetics and visibility. In this context, female adolescents become more susceptible to the impacts of these representations, as they are in a period of identity construction and self-image formation. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze how female adolescents living in Brasília de Minas – MG interpret the beauty standards disseminated on Instagram and the impacts these representations have on body perception and identity construction processes. The research adopts a qualitative and exploratory approach, grounded in the interpretivist paradigm and based on Consumer Culture Theory (CCT), a perspective that understands consumption as a symbolic and cultural practice. As methodological procedures, semi-structured interviews were conducted with twelve female adolescents, along with content analysis of Instagram posts published by digital influencers. The results showed that the participants recognize the existence of dominant aesthetic standards associated with thinness, flawless skin, and a “perfect” appearance. Constant processes of social comparison were also identified, associated with feelings of insecurity, anxiety, and body dissatisfaction. In addition, digital influencers were found to act as important cultural mediators, legitimizing beauty standards and influencing consumption practices, social recognition, and forms of self-presentation in the digital environment. It is concluded that Instagram plays a significant role in the construction of adolescents’ self-image and identity, reinforcing the need to expand debates on digital culture, emotional health, symbolic consumption, and the critical use of social networks.
