Abstract

Preeclampsia is characterized as a hypertensive syndrome specific to pregnancy, marked by elevated blood pressure after the 20th week of gestation, often associated with proteinuria and organ dysfunctions, which may progress to severe and potentially fatal conditions. Due to its impact on maternal and fetal mortality, it represents a significant public health issue. In this context, nurses play an essential role in Primary Health Care, being responsible for prenatal follow-up, early identification of clinical signs, guidance on healthy lifestyle habits, and continuous monitoring of pregnant women. This qualitative and descriptive study was developed through an integrative literature review, encompassing articles published between 2019 and 2024 in the LILACS, BDENF, and MEDLINE databases, using the descriptors “nurse’s role,” “preeclampsia,” and “management of preeclampsia.” The analysis of seven studies revealed that nursing performance is crucial in preventing complications, promoting early diagnosis, and providing care to pregnant women with preeclampsia. Educational practices, clinical protocols, and ongoing professional training were found to significantly contribute to maternal and fetal safety. Thus, it is reaffirmed that the nurse’s role is indispensable in promoting health throughout the pregnancy-puerperal cycle and in reducing morbidity and mortality rates associated with preeclampsia.
