Abstract

This study addresses "Deforestation and Environmental Degradation in Malanje: Causes and Consequences," seeking to understand the factors that contribute to the increased destruction of forests and the resulting environmental, social, and economic impacts. The research problem centers on the following question: what are the main causes and consequences of deforestation and environmental degradation in the province of Malanje? The objective is to analyze the causes and consequences of deforestation and environmental degradation in the province of Malanje. To this end, the study aims to: identify the main human activities responsible for environmental degradation; describe the environmental and social impacts caused by forest destruction; understand the population's perception of environmental problems; and propose preservation and environmental education measures aimed at the sustainable development of the region. The methodology employed is characterized as mixed-methods research, of a descriptive and exploratory nature. Data collection will utilize questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, direct observation, and document analysis. The research participants will consist of local residents, farmers, traditional authorities, students, teachers, and technicians linked to the environmental sector in the province of Malanje. The data analysis will allow us to understand the relationships between human practices and the observed environmental impacts. It is concluded, preliminarily, that deforestation and environmental degradation in Malanje result mainly from uncontrolled human action and the absence of effective environmental policies. Such practices cause local climate change, loss of biodiversity, soil erosion, decreased quality of life for the population, and risks to the ecological balance. Thus, it is essential to strengthen public policies for environmental preservation, promote environmental education campaigns, and encourage sustainable practices that contribute to the conservation of natural resources and the sustainable development of the province of Malanje.
