Nutrition plays a fundamental role in maintaining periodontal health, influencing inflammatory, immunological, and tissue repair mechanisms. Periodontal diseases are a significant public health problem, with a high prevalence in the adult population. The aim of this article is to analyze, through a literature review, the influence of nutrition on periodontal health, highlighting the main nutrients associated with the prevention and progression of these diseases. This is a narrative review of the literature, conducted in national and international scientific databases. The results show that adequate intake of vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids contributes to the integrity of periodontal tissues, while unbalanced diets favor inflammatory processes and the progression of periodontitis. It is concluded that adequate nutrition should be considered an essential component in the prevention and management of periodontal diseases. The results also indicate that nutritional assessment and guidance should be considered complementary components in the clinical management of periodontal disease. Integration between dentistry and nutrition professionals can contribute to more comprehensive therapeutic approaches, enhancing the effects of conventional periodontal treatment and favoring the prevention of recurrence.
